n this show, Kaki King plays a projection mapped guitar, which tells an experimental narrative about the manifestations of an anthropomorphized guitar. On this project I functioned as Projection Designer, Production Designer, media Designer and Video Engineer in collaboration with guitarist Kaki King. Touring nationally and internationally, The Neck Is A Bridge To The Body, was toured worldwide from USA, Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia, and South America. I

Media Performance and Installation performed at Fusebox Festival, Austin TX and On The Boards, Seattle, WA, and the Irey Theater in Boulder, CO in 2019. This work was created in collaboration with artist Michelle Ellsworth.

I was responsible for the direction, production and post-production on 21 short films shown in this work, the video projection and sound designs for the live performances, music composition, system design, and interactive, haptic components for show control, and live performance. This trailer shows excerpts from the 21 films.

Data Not Found (performance Documentation) (2019-2020)

Live, Media-based Performance

Data Not Found was commissioned and premiered at NYU Abu Dhabi. Directed by Annie Dorsen, and in collaboration with guitarist Kaki King, sound designers Bobby McElver and Chloe Thompson, and  lighting designer Ryan Seelig, this production utilizes multi- channel static and dynamic projection mapping systems, immersive sound design, and fluid midi networks between video, sound, and lights for live triggering by Kaki from the stage. I was responsible for the video content design, video projection design, stage production design, system design, and stage scenic design. This work was scheduled to tour to Virginia Tech, New Haven Arts and Ideas Festival, and Georgia Tech among others, all of which were cancelled due to COVID-19. The work was also developed with support from Mass MoCA, North Adams, MA.

For this work I was responsible for the live, video and sound designs, music composition, system design, and interactive, haptic components for show control as well as performance documentation and promotional trailers. This work was created in collaboration with artist Michelle Ellsworth, lighting designer Ryan Seelig, set designer Bruce Miller, and live performer Jadd Tank, Ondine Geary, and Lauren Beale.

This work was performed at the Fischer Center at Bard College, NY in 2017, at the American Realness Festival in Brooklyn, NY in 2018, and at both Fusebox Festival, Austin, TX and On The Boards, Seattle WA in 2019.

Eupana, So Many Suns Tour

In this ensemble I was the primary song-writer, the drummer, and the video designer. This production was performed at the Vivid Post-Rock festival in Kristiansand, Norway, Stockholm, Sweden, Gothenburg, Sweden, Halden, Norway, Providence, RI, New York, New York, and Jersey City, NJ.

The Kind of thing you don’t talk about (2016-2017)

A hybrid between performance art piece and comedic storytelling, The Kind Of Thing You Don’t Talk About attempts to shape a new perception of survivors of sexual assault through live video and sound manipulation, mythological recreations, and personal anecdotes.

Performer/writier, Asia Gagnon uses hot dogs, green screens, altered biblical references, and more to illuminate the humanity and strength in survival, and subvert the elements of shock and victimization that pervade the mediated representation of rape.

This work was directed, designed, programmed, and performed by Max Bernstein. This show was performed at Dixon Place, New York New, NY, Irondale Arts Center, Brooklyn, NY, The performing Garage, New York, NY, and Torn Space Theater, Buffalo, NY

The Feral Piano (2017) (Performance documentation Trailer)

The Feral Piano is an evening of dialectical performances, which consists of three works focusing on the potentials of found and transformed pianos Pianoharp duet Max Bernstein and Mark McCoin conduct practices of repurposing abandoned instruments in order to subvert both obsolescence and accessibility in our throw-away-society. The process of hunting for, and engaging with cumbersome architecture in the age of midi instruments and engineered desuetude, supplants the piano's history as a culturally privileged, and inaccessible object. For this work I was responsible, for projection design, media design, sound design, musical composition, and performance of the work. This work was performed over 2 nights at the Atlas Blackbox Theater in Boulder, Co.

Clytigation: State of Exception (2016)(performance documentation)

For this work I was responsible for the live, video and sound designs, projection design, music composition, system design, and interactive, haptic components for show control as well as performance documentation and promotional trailers. This work was created in collaboration with artist Michelle Ellsworth, lighting designer Ryan Seelig, set designer Bruce Miller, and live performer Jadd Tank. This work was performed at Brown University in 2015, at the Chocolate Factory, New York, NY in 2016, and at On The Boards, Seattle, WA in 2016, and at the Irey Theater Boulder, CO in 2016. In addition, due to the complex nature of this production, I created a video game version of the show as documentation, which allowed players to experience the work via web browser, including all interactive elements of the show.

Phone Homer (2011-2016) (performance documentation)

A one woman, multimedia portrayal of Clytemnestra, the woman left behind as her husband Agamemnon serves as leader of the Greeks in Troy. Performed by Michelle Ellsworth, this work, uses series of instructional videos, Skype calls with characters from The Iliad, a kinetic alphabet modeled after the Kinect, hamburger sacrifices, and an entire internet constructed specifically for this show to interpret this mythic character. For this work I was responsible, for media and sound design, graphic design of web content, media and sound system design, music composition, and live performance. This work was performed at On the Boards, Seattle WA, Fusebox Festival, Austin, TX, City College, Chicago, IL, Onasis Center, Athens, Greece, and The University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, CO.
